**Insurance may not always cover therapy. Insurance companies require a diagnosis when submitting claims. Common diagnoses may include adjustment disorder (six month limit), major depressive disorder and/or generalized anxiety disorder to name a few. When presenting for couples therapy it is required that one member of the couple be identified as the primary patient and be given a diagnosis. Most insurance companies do not cover marital therapy for issues involving communication skills. If medical necessity cannot be shown, insurance will not cover psychotherapy even if your plan has mental health coverage. Additionally, you may meet medical necessity initially, but over the course of therapy you may no longer meet such medical necessity. Should you no longer meet medical necessity, you will be responsible for the full payment.

If you have out-of-network coverage, I can provide you with a SuperBill to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.  You will need to verify out-of-network benefits with your insurance provider.
